Flyying Colours have been making reverb drenched pop music laced with sounds of shoegaze and postpunk since being born out of a sharehouse in Melbourne’s inner north a decade ago.

Formed in 2011 by school friends Brodie J Brümmer and Gemma O'Connor, Flyying Colours would play shows week in, week out in the city’s indie clubs. They caught their break with their first single 'Wavygravy' in 2013 and followed with a self-titled EP later that year. Going from strength to strength with a number of singles and EPs, it was finally in 2016 that they knuckled down in the studio to complete their debut album Mindfullness. In early 2021, they dropped their second album Fantasy Country, again taking inspiration from the sounds of the early 90s UK psych/shoegaze scene.

In 2017, the band dropped by PBS to record a fabulous set in Studio 5 that aired live on The Afterglow. As we await the reopening of Melbourne’s music venues, we continue to keep the spirit of live music alive by revisiting this great session from Flyying Colours. Tune in once again to The Afterglow on September 15 to hear the whole thing.

Studio 5 Rewind is brought to you by our mates at Mountian Goat.
