This month we say a very fond farewell to Monica Hanns who winds up Against the Tide after ten years on PBS.  Monica spent much of 2020 on maternity leave, and has decided that now is the right time to focus on family and career, and to allow another PBS volunteer the opportunity to go to air every Wednesday evening.

Over the last decade Against the Tide has moved from a late-night weekend slot into a drive-time show and then after a short hiatus into its current home at 7pm every Wednesday.

"After a year like 2020, raising a newborn in the midst of a 1 in 100 year pandemic, I have had a lot of time to think and have decided to finish up Against The Tide. It's truly been an honour to be able to present the show on PBS for the last 10 years. The hours spent in the studio, playing records and talking about music have been some of the most fun of my life.  It's been wonderful to be a small part of what is a diverse, fascinating and talented music community in Australia. I am really happy to be handing the timeslot over to someone fresh and excited to see what they will bring to the station. My heartfelt thanks to all the artists who I have had the privilege of playing and interviewing over the years and to the listeners for tuning in." Monica Hanns

Monica has also made an incredible contribution to our community in roles behind the scenes at PBS and we’ll all miss her dearly.

Tune in on Wednesday January 27 when Monica returns for one final Against the Tide to say thanks, farewell and to share a few of her all-time favourites.
