by Autechre

Exai is the 11th album from Rob Brown and Sean Booth, collectively known as Autechre, one of the most prominent acts on the cult U.K. label Warp Records. The title is derived from the pronunciation of the eleventh Roman number – XI. Whenever I hear the name Autechre I can't but help being thrown back in time, to first having the pleasure of hearing their 1993 debut album Incunabula. This stunning classic album, quite extraordinary sonically, indicated the duos ability for innovation rather than imitation, while still achieving chart success with the album reaching the top of the UK Indie Chart. This rebellious production mentality, perhaps even a distain for trends and being labeled or bundled into a particular genre, continues on their latest delivery. This release comes in at a staggering 2 hours and 32 seconds over 17 tracks and pays no obvious homage to current bass music trends, variants and or revivals. If anything it stands proudly I.D.M., a genre that has been somewhat sidelined by the aforementioned bass music. To accompany the release the duo performed two separate radio broadcasts, each running for 10 hours – extraordinary. But that's Autechre!

See the Warp Records page for album details, as well as links to those radio broadcasts:
