In 1994, Brisbane Multicultural Arts along with Queensland University Of Technology released the album Echoes Under The Bridge. The album celebrated traditional and folk music from cross-cultural groups in Brisbane and brought them to a wider audience. For the 20th anniversary, a new compilation simply titled Echoes has been released and it's another celebration of what Brisbane world music has to offer. Under the guidance of musician and composer Linsey Pollak, the album brings together a great variety of new artists who have brought high quality performances to this release. Several countries are represented including sounds from Zimbabwe (Tichawona Mashawa & Velvet Pesu) Japan (Gen) and China (The Cedar Dragon) to name just a few. If you're not familiar with this sort of music, this release is certainly worth exploring. A worthwhile musical adventure.
