Hailing from Melbourne, Deep Street Soul are the local kings of Australian raw funk. Tough, hard-hitting, gritty & aggressive.

The band formed in 2006 as a live act and released their first 7inch through local label Jaycees in 2007. With some local radio support and international play on the BBC6’s ‘Craig Charles funk & soul show’ the initial pressing sold out. In 2008 the band dropped their second 7inch on Jaycees, which received great reviews from around the world as well as more support from BBC6. The outtakes from this session were then picked up by Straightup Recordings and released as a digital EP which saw airplay throughout Spain, France & Germany. On the back of this came an invite to perform at the legendary St. Paul Soul Jazz festival in France. In late 2008 after hearing these recordings Freestyle Records (UK) boss Adrian Gibson asked the band to sign to his label and release their first full length LP.
