Last week the Federal Government’s Commission of Audit report made recommendations that might have serious implications for many community radio stations around the country. These recommendations have not yet been adopted as policy, but if implemented the consequences could be quite dire for some stations around Australia and for the communities they represent.

The representative body for our sector, the Community Broadcasting Association of Australia (CBAA) will continue to liaise with all sides of politics to ensure that community radio remains strong and vibrant on-air and in our communities. CBAA President and PBS General Manager Adrian Basso is working with stations around the country to make sure that the federal government understands just how vital community media is, and to ensure that financial support is available for those stations that need it.

PBS listeners are encouraged to keep abreast of these issues, sign up and make yourself be heard, by visiting www.committocommunityradio.org.au
