Latin musicians are tuning their congas and restringing their guitars for ,strong>Clave Contra Clave 2013, a Latin music experience like no other. Coming to Melbourne on October 20 at the Palace Theatre, the event, a band competition, promises you none other than city’s best, together for one big fiesta.

Expect 7 of Melbourne’s best local Latin bands going head to head showcasing their best Salsa, Vallenato, Latin Jazz, and toe tapping Afro-Cuban arrangements keeping you dancing as they battle it out for a place in the Melbourne Grand Finale and a chance at up to $25,000 in prize money. Supported by world leading hand percussion brand, Latin Percussion (LP), there will be a 2 year endorsement awarded to the best percussionist of the national competition. The local competition will be judged by international musicians Bobbie Rivas (USA) and Jhosse Lora (El Salvador), and locals Michael Tortoni from Bennetts Lane and Melbourne International Jazz Festival, Jill Morgan CEO of Multicultural Arts Victoria, and Blue King Brown’s Cesar Rodrigues. The national event also features comedian Ivan Aristeguieta, free dance classes, dance performances by local schools and an opportunity to vote for a People’s Choice Finalist.

Clave Contra Clave is part of Gift Abroad’s community initiatives aimed at helping build a sustainable Latin music industry propelling creativity and industry growth. The event strongly emphasizes 100% live music performance, original music, and a collaborative approach involving local Latin dance schools, community organisations, and local businesses.
