This week’s PBS Feature Album is Cartoon Darkness from Naarm/Melbourne's homegrown pub-rock heroes, Amyl and The Sniffers. 

The 13-track project follows the band's 2019 self-titled debut and their 2021 hit Comfort To Me, delving into provocative explorations of climate change, war, AI, tiptoeing on the eggshells of politics, and Big Tech. In the face of these looming realities, Amyl and The Sniffers dive headfirst into the unknown, combating the chaos with childlike sensibilities that capture the playful rock n' roll grit we know and love.

This week’s PBS Feature Album is Just My Luck from BATTS, the project of Naarm/Melbourne-based musician, Tanya Batt.

The recent release follows her AMP nominated sophomore album ‘The Nightline’ which was supported around the world by BBC 6 Music, NPR, Brooklyn Vegan, NME, Sterogum and other prominent outlets. Batt’s main focus for the third album was to fall in love with music again, to find the joy and playfulness in it all, something she felt she had lost through grief and the toxicities that exist in the industry.

PBS and Melbourne International Jazz Festival have joined up to present two intimate Artist Talks, hosted at PBS Studios in Collingwood Yards during this year's festival. At 6pm on October 22, MzRizk interviews London-born saxophonist Nubya Garcia (Booked Out), and at 3pm October 24, Mike Gurrieri interviews Brandee Younger (TIX).

Entry is free, but RSVPs are essential.

Coda Chroma (aka Kate Lucas) creates music that sways between cinematic folk and baroque pop, with otherworldly harmonies, honest and existential lyrics, suspended in deeply nuanced production.

This week’s PBS Feature Album is the debut album Stiletto by six-piece hypnotic dance-punk ensemble Gut Health.

Recorded in 2023 with long-term collaborator Julian Cue (CIVIC, Screensaver) and Gut Health’s Dom Willmott on a 24-track reel-to-reel tape machine, Gut Health’s debut full-length offering is an immersive ten-track foray into dancefloor-inducing soundscapes and punchy prowess, with songs oscillating between infectious up-tempo numbers, hypnotic bliss and chaotic noise edging precariously toward collapse.
