Program Information

The Sound Barrier

Ian Parsons

Ian Parsons is currently overseas and will return on Sunday August 11.

Looking after the show in Ian's absence will be long-time PBS announcer, and Sunday night favourite Garry Havrillay with a very different musical take on The Sound Barrier.  Some listeners will remember a distinctive globally-minded program called Continental Drift heard throughout the 90s on Sunday nights on PBS.  It was succeeded by Border Crossings and In The Quiet. Ian Parson's unique program of avant-guard and experimental music followed.

While Ian is away, Garry breaks down The Sound Barrier into its softer components, focussing on the more peaceful places in our musical world. Expect a very broad range of traditional and contemporary sounds, past and present; ambient, acoustic, global, trance, cross-cultural, electronic, jazz, chamber works, singer-songwriters, even disappearing music and field recordings.

Garry Havrillay programs and presents these unique Sound Barrier programs on PBS every Sunday night between 10pm and midnight until August 4. Ian Parsons returns on August 11.
