After more than two years since performing in their home country, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard are back this December with two uniquely Melbourne shows. Night one will see the band perform with a 29-piece orchestra at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl on December 12, followed by a second night showcasing King Gizz in all their rock glory. Opa Bato! and Estudiantina of Melbourne will come together for a riotous evening at the Brunswick Ballroom on Saturday, September 27. Con Kalamaras from Estudiantina and Dušan Mitrović from Opa Bato! visit Global Village to share the story behind this vibrant overlap of frenetic Balkan brass music from Serbia, Macedonia, and beyond, with the local blend of Greek, Turkish, Jewish, and Armenian influences. 'Telepathic Fish: Trawling The Early 90s Ambient Underground' recounts the seminal underground ambient party scene from South London. An album compilation of personal favourites that were played at the 'Telepathic Fish' parties during the 90s, the tracks are picked and arranged by David Vallade, Mario Aguera and DJ Food who combed their collections for key pieces they associate with the time. Ukrainian psych-prog band Stoned Jesus are bringing their seismic sound to Melbourne on October 4 as part of their XV Anniversary Tour, celebrating 15 years of shaping the stoner rock and doom metal scenes. Known for their thunderous riffs, introspective lyrics, and genre-defying albums, Stoned Jesus will be playing at The Leadbeater Hotel in Richmond. The project of French-American artist Milou Moon is launching her dreamy psych sophomore EP 'Rêverie' at Punters Club on October 11. Having just released the EP in her hometown of Chicago last month, Milou refines her distinctive brand of ethereal psych rock with expansive synthscapes, singular vocal melodies, and winding musical journeys. Canadian group Sloan is that rare band whose ethos runs alongside its discography. From early gigs in a college basement to the present day, Sloan have released 13 albums - beginning with their early signature tune, 'Underwhelmed' - and are now set to drop their 14th record, 'Based on the Best Seller'. Born in Patagonia, Argentina, with roots tracing back to the Indigenous Mapuche people, Elena Zaléz sings and dances tango. Since 2016, she has been based in Naarm/ Melbourne, where she teaches, dances, sings, and organises events. Delivering Balkan-French inspired sounds to folk lovers internationally, MZAZA are preparing to take Melbourne audiences on an unforgettable theatrical journey with their Fringe show 'MZAZA: The Birth and Death of Stars'. Lead singer of the Meanjin/Brisbane-based band, Pauline Maudy, chats to Roger about the upcoming performances, taking place from October 1 - 5 at Trades Hall - ETU Ballroom in Carlton. ARIA Award-winning saxophonist, composer, label director, and academic Jeremy Rose will be joining Greg on Stars In The Static this September 28. With a career spanning over 25 recordings as a leader and more than 150 original works, his current ensembles include The Vampires, The Earshift Orchestra, Vazesh, Visions of Nar, Project Infinity, and the Jeremy Rose Quartet.
