From the very start, PBS 106.7FM has led the way for all Melburnians to experience live music with broadcasts from the back of the Prince of Wales in St Kilda more than 30 years ago.

That strong live music tradition continues with PBS Studio 5 Live, weekly live performance broadcasts from the PBS studios. The vibe is grassroots, with an unwavering commitment to quality and diversity.
The sessions consist of a half hour live set and a short interview with one of our announcers.

Since forming in 2017, Northern NSW-based heavy psych rockers Turtle Skull have been carving their own niche with crushing riffs, stacked vocal harmonies and dense synthscapes that hit like a lightning bolt wrapped in a velvet curtain. They’ve built a cult following on the back of explosive live sets and records that cater for the deep listener. Their latest offering, Being Here, dives into the liminal space between joy and oblivion - urging you not to escape, but to arrive.

Legendary ska, rocksteady, early reggae and Jah RnB group The Ska Vendors are celebrating 21 years of playing around Naarm/Melbourne and across Australia. To kick off the milestone, they've released two 7” vinyls - the first with Jamaican foundation artist Stranger Cole after a triumphant four-show tour late in 2022, and recently, 'Good Love Bad', a song written by Kerri Simpson, recently inducted into the Blues Hall of fame.

Shepparton Airplane (Naarm/Melbourne) are known for their frenetic blend of jagged melody, pithy punk rock discourse and screaming feedback. The band was formed in the mid-2010s, initially making waves with their energetic and raw approach to punk rock music. Their debut album, Shepparton Airplane (2016), immediately captured the attention of Naarm/Melbourne local music lovers with its post-punk sensibilities. The album was characterized by catchy hooks, driving beats, and fuzzy guitars, with a strong immediacy that resonates through each track.

Lian Band are a leading folkloric ensemble led by Mohsen Sharifian. A master of the ney-anbān (Persian Gulf bagpipe), Sharifian has dedicated his career to preserving and reinventing the folk music of southern Iran. In 1993 he founded the Lian Band, now one of the country’s most acclaimed traditional ensembles. Together with Lian band, Sharifian has performed in over 30 countries, captivating audiences with the energetic rhythms and melodies of Boushehr.
