Coming onto Fiesta Jazz this Saturday is local 12-piece Afro-Cuban salsa band La Influencia. Led by pianist Daniel Mougerman (The Bamboos) and timbalero Salvador Persico (Blue King Brown), they will be performing their original music alongside the music of Cuban heavyweights Alain Pérez, Havana D’Primera and Irakere at the Jazzlab on November 5. Saúl Zavarce interviews Daniel Mougerman about the upcoming show.

'Purple Patch' is the sophomore album from Whadjuk Noongar Boodja/ Fremantle formed band Spice World. Made up of Jonny Burrows, Lyndon Blue, Julia Suddenly, Rhian Todhunter, and Layla Martin, Spice World perform DIY, ad-hoc pop music that is sometimes sad and sometimes silly, but always offered in earnest. Having just played a show in Melbourne for the album release, the group stop by The Breakfast Spread for a Monday morning acoustic performance. 

USA four piece All Them Witches resides at an elusive crossroads where clouds of slow-burning meditative distortion soak up strains of stratospheric psychedelia, out-of-body blues, and thundering no-frills hard rock. Formed in Nashville in 2012, the band are coming to Australia in December, playing at the Corner Hotel on December 2 as well as Good Things Festival on December 4. During his Halloween special, Chris Pearson catches up with the band ahead of their tour. 

This morning on the program, Helen Jennings welcomes back local blues and soul guitarist Geoff Achison to the show for an acoustic live performance, alongside Aaron Pollock. Iration Steppas Sound System is the foundation of the West Yorkshire, UK underground bass music scene. Mark Iration and Dennis Rootikal met in the early 1990’s when sound system culture was changing and the music was evolving, and their partnership led to the development of a progressive style of reggae and dub, which has inspired a generation of new sound systems and dub producers. Jesse I catches up with Mark Iration, chatting about his string of shows in Melbourne from Oct 31 - Nov 2.

'I Still Miss You' is the new album from award-winning saxophonist, composer and performer Cheryl Durongpisitkul. A highly personal and cathartic exploration of trauma, loss and grief, as Cheryl says: "The album draws on my lived experiences in a family shaken by my mother’s diagnosis of ovarian cancer and her battle with bipolar disorder." Formed in Norway in 1991, Enslaved was inspired by 'Demonaz' of Immortal after the Immortal demo track 'Enslaved in Rot'. After three consecutive albums with a stable line-up, the band has since then had a change up in band members. Fusing traditional Turkish folk with global influences, Muharrem Aslan bridges cultures through emotionally rich storytelling in both Turkish and English. Following his concert at Club Voltaire and ahead of his show at Open Space on December 5, Muharrem drops by the Global Village to talk about his music and play some songs live.

On November 15 at Church of All Nations in Carlton, the Forest Collective will present an evening of music that explores the tumults of love and heartbreak, celebrates new life and lives well-lived, and acknowledges the transformations of self over time.
