In September 2021 Melbourne lost a great champion of community radio and alt-country music.  For more than 40 years David Heard broadcast programs on his beloved PBS 106.7FM, right up until he passed away at the age of just 65.

Every year during Yarra’s Leaps and Bounds Festival Heardy would host a special edition of his weekly program Acid Country, live-to-air from one of Yarra’s many live venues.  This year PBS will again partner with the City of Yarra to present a very special live broadcast, and tribute to David Heard between 3pm and 5pm on Thursday June 23.

Head down to The Rainbow Hotel in Fitzroy to come together and celebrate the legacy of David Heard with PBS regulars Ernie (Swinging Doors) and Myles (5Ft High and Rising) broadcasting live-to-air.

They’ll be joined by special guests paying tribute to our dear departed colleague, and live performances from some of Melbourne’s finest musicians including:

  • James Ellis
  • Tanya-Lee Davies
  • Kerryn Fields
  • Ben Mastwyk
  • Alison Ferrier and Jeff Lang (High Ace)

'David Heard was truly an institution not just at PBS, but right throughout Melbourne’s thriving alt-country and roots music scene.  Heardy was a true gentlemen, generous with his time and passionate about all the things in life that matter.  We deeply miss his warmth, his humour and his loyal friendship here at PBS. '
