Russ Dewbury on Mystic Brew


Renowned British DJ Russ Dewbury joins Mike Gurrieri on Mystic Brew for a two hour takeover!

From his debut in 1986 Russ Dewbury has become an influential and highly respected figure on the international dance music scene. His unique blend of Nu Yorican Funk and Disco, Afro Latin and Tropical Beats mixed with Electro Jazz, Drum n Bass and vintage flavours continues to move dance floors worldwide and Russ enjoys a hectic touring schedule.

Based in Brighton UK, Russ has appeared with a vast array of musical talent at top festivals and club nights in over 35 countries, as well as developing a substantial reputation as a worldwide taste maker, live music promoter, record compiler, radio broadcaster and composer/producer.In his role as a broadcaster, Russ has appeared on many radio and TV stations around the world including BBC TV, ITV, Radio 1, BBC 6 Music, Jazz FM, ABC Australia and Radio Nova Paris.

His critically acclaimed radio shows on Brighton Juice 107.2FM have run for over 15 years achieving a huge internet audience. It is safe to say that Russ is acknowledged as an international radio music taste maker. One of the original UK Black Music DJs, Dewbury runs the longest running club session in the world. The Brighton 'Jazz Rooms' which opened in February 1987 and continues to thrive in 2013, having featured an incredible array of DJ talent including Rainer Truby, Kyoto Jazz Massive, Jazzanova, Gilles Peterson, Nicola Conte, Pete Herbert, Patrick Forge and many others. Russ is also a well known as promoter of the renowned 'Brighton Jazz Bop; UK festival. Established in 1988, the Jazz Bop has featured a Who's Who of international artists including Art Blakey and the Jazz Messenger, Terry Callier, Jamiroquai, The Cinematic Orchestra, Tony Allen, Alice Russell and Roy Ayes, to name a few.

As a key figure in the independent record industry, Dewbury has worked as an A&R Chief, manager of Terry Callier, and the man behind quality compilations that span the dance arena; including the highly successful "Africa Funk" and "Club Africa " series for Strut and Harmless Records which sold over 60,000 copies worldwide .A life long ambition of Russ' was realised with the release of his first ever album of original compositions. Together with producer Ben Mitchell the pair created an intriguing mixture of Cosmic Soul, Jazz Disco and Latin Beats with a Drum n Bass twist. Titled 'Beyond The Rains' and released on Mr Bongo Records it received much critical acclaim.

Russ Dewbury performs in Melbourne this Wednesday night at Section 8.
