The famed record producer, Rick Hall passed away on Jan 2nd, aged 85. He owned FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama and was the focus of the 2013 documentary, Muscle Shoals. The first 4 of the following tracks were all produced by him at FAME Studios.

1. Arthur Alexander | You Better Move On | Single
- This 1961 single was the first hit produced at FAME.
2. Aretha Franklin | I Never Loved A Man (The Way I Love You) | I Never Loved A Man The Way I Love You
- This was the first song Aretha recorded at FAME and her first hit single.
3. Etta James | Tell Mama | Tell Mama
- This song was one of Etta's first recordings at FAME and became a classic.
4. Wilson Pickett | Hey Jude | Hey Jude
- This brilliant cover has a particularly amazing guitar solo by Duane Allman. I'm a big Beatles fan but I do think that this version is better than the original!
5. Denise LaSalle | Trapped By A Thing Called Love | Trapped By A Thing Called Love
- Denise sadly passed away on Jan 8th, aged 78. This is her best known song and a classic piece of early 70s soul.

6. Tiny Ruins | Reasonable Man | Brightly Painted One
- This is from the second album by the wonderful NZ artist, Hollie Fullbrook, released in 2014. The Tiny Ruins website state that a new album is coming soon which is good news!
7. The Orbweavers | Poison Garden | Deep Leads
- This has been my morning album for the summer!
8. Xylouris White | Spud's Garden | Mother

9. France Gall | Laisser Tomber Les Filles | Sacre Charlemagne
- France Gall sadly passed away on Jan 7th, aged 70. She was best known as a French ye-ye singer who recorded several songs by Serge Gainsbourg early in her career including this one which became famous in a version with English lyrics covered by April March and featured in the Tarantino film, Death Proof.
10. Brigitte Bardot | Contact | Brigitte Bardot Show
- This is another great song that was written by Serge Gainbourg.

- This is another tune written by Serge and taken off his then-partner Jane's debut album.
12. Jane Birkin & Serge Gainsbourg | 69 Annee Erotique | Jane Birkin/Serge Gainsbourg
- Continuing the trend, I thought we'd her one with Serge on vocals alongside Jane from this great 1969 album.
13. Mick Harvey | Ford Mustang | Intoxicated Man
- Taken from Mick's first of three Serge Gainsbourg cover albums, released in 1995. This track is a duet with Anita Lane.

14. Machine Translations | P | Oh
- This is taken from the most recent Machine Translations album which is really wonderful and this track is a highlight.
15. Courtney Barnett and Kurt Vile | Continental Breakfast | Lotta Sea Lice
- This is from the duo's first collaboration album, released last year.
16. Gomez | 78 Stone Wobble | Bring It On

17. L.A. Mood | Virgin Song | Crushing Highs And Amazing Lows
- This is a project for Dave Mudie who is the drummer for Courtney Barnett and bass player in Baby Blue. This EP was released last year.
18. Baby Blue | Save Yourself | In My Mind
- This has become one of my favourite summer songs! Baby Blue are about to release a new single, Fire & Ice and will be launching it on Feb 15th w/Michael Beach & Bitch Diesel. Rhea from Baby Blue will also be playing solo tonight @ The Pinnacle Hotel w/Girlatones and the band will be playing at The Penny Black on Friday night.

- Danny McDonald from P76 will be playing a solo set supporting The Golden Rail on Friday night at Some Velvet Morning.

- The Golden Rail will be launching this album on vinyl at the above mentioned gig. Kyle Brew will also be playing and I will be spinning some tunes between sets as well!
21. Icecream Hands | Yellow And Blue | Sweeter Than The Radio
- This is a great summery pop song from the band's great 1999 album. Charles Jenkins from the band is currently playing a residency on monday nights at The Retreat in Brunswick.
22. Jess Locke | Dangerous | Universe
- Taken from Jess' 2nd album, released towards the end of last year.

24. John Martyn | Over The Hill | Solid Air
- This is from John's 1973 album which I highly recommend.
