Supporting new music - the APRA AMCOS Art Music Fund

The Sound Barrier for Sunday 3 February 2019

Spreading the word of new and innovative avant-garde music is, of course, pretty much the raison d'être of a show like The Sound Barrier and, with that, comes a huge collective responsibility not just for radio shows to play the music but for all of us, as a society, to support and encourage it to be written and performed.

An important initiative along those lines is the APRA AMCOS Art Music Fund, and on this weekend's edition of the show my guest will be Cameron Lam, Art Music Specialist at APRA AMCOS, to chat a bit about the fund.

The APRA AMCOS Art Music Fund is a huge opportunity for Australian and New Zealand composers to get a share of the $100,000 on offer but, with applications closing on 20 February, time is running out.

Along with my chat with Cameron, I will also be playing music by some of the fund's recipients over the past few years, including Cat Hope, Liza Lim, Julian Day, and Anthony Pateras.

I hope you can join me this Sunday night at 10 PM (AEDT) on Melbourne's 106.7 PBS FM and on PBS Digital, or else you can listen live from anywhere in the world, here online or via the PBS App. The show is also available to listen back to afterwards via the PBS audio archives.
