Musicians for Detainees is an official fundraiser for the ASRC (Asylum Seeker Resource Centre) at The Toff in Town on Wednesday October 21.

Musicians for Detainees is a new collective of independent musicians, performing in support of
asylum seeker programs in the community. The collective began in late 2014 with monthly gigs
in Melbourne detention centres, with the aim of reducing the sense of social isolation. We now
aim to bring awareness to our work, as well as to raise
much needed funds for ASRC, with the
first of a series of special shows at The Toff.

We are grateful and excited that this cause has drawn support from an array of diverse
performers, including powerhouse singer-songwriter Liz Stringer and Gian Slater’s innovative
jazz vocal ensemble, Invenio. Heart-warming indie force, Skipping Girl Vinegar, will give a
stripped back solo performance, and Brisbane favourite Hailey Calvert will kick off proceedings
with her raw and uninhibited live show.

ASRC, a community led, independent non-profit organisation has been working to uphold the human rights of people seeking asylum since 2001. They provide 30 holistic programs that protect asylum seekers from persecution and destitution, supports dignity, and empower people to advance their own future.

Each ticket sold can provide an ESL (English as a second language) class for 60 people; $165
can provide four months supply of nappies for one baby; $1,000 can provide 2,000 hot meals.
This event, together with our planned future events, has the capacity to raise funds for real,
tangible outcomes in our community. All proceeds from the night will be donated to ASRC.

All artists are donating their time at this concert, and a representative from ASRC will be present on the night, with further information and resources for those wanting to know how to get more involved.
