Saun and Starr - Look Closer

The Dapettes come out of the shadows with their debut LP. Saun & Starr's first 45 "Hot Shot" has become the biggest seller to date for Daptone Records and their highly anticipated LP "Look Closer" has dropped and well, it's a monster!

Gabe Roth and Neal Sugarman's ability to find and nurture great talent is in plain sight here. Saun and Starr's natural capabilities are given the Dap treatment and the result is a pure delight.

The LP is full of those instantly recognizable Dap King horn lines but this is an altogether sweeter sound to come out of the Daptone Studio's. "Dear Mr Freddy" is an instant crossover classic. We have stone cold deep soul perfection with "If only" and the last track "Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah" feels so good and is so catchy it will be on repeat.

Tune to Boss Action this Thursday for Saun and Starr phone interview.

The Milk Carton Kids Monterey (Featured on The Breakfast Spread)
If delicate, gentle harmonies are your sort of thing, you must check out The Milk Carton Kids. Kenneth Pattengale and Joey Ryan started off as solo acts before meeting each other and realising that their voices melded so well together. They decided to release a live album (Retrospect) recorded in a cafe where they sang their solo songs and finished that chapter. The same year, they released their first album of songs written together, Prologue. You can now get these two albums for free on their website where they have been downloaded over 55,000 times! Their first album on a major label (Anti-) was 2013's The Ash & Clay and, although a little more produced, showcased their beautiful songs and harmonies. Their new album Monterey continues in that fashion. While it may not necessarily be breaking new ground, songs such as Asheville Skies, Secrets Of The Stars and High Hopes show that it's still a great album. Perfect for a Sunday morning.
