by The Budos Band

The Budos Band have been around since 2005 and have been the purveyors of afro-soul, especially on their first two albums. A wonderful array of funky instrumental tunes that would suit any Saturday night party! Their third album Budos Band III, released in 2010, saw a bit of a change with the band delving into darker territory and slower grooves for the most part. Four years have passed since that album and they've made another musical change but this time, psychedelic rock has become a major part of their sound. On Burnt Offering, the band has stated that they started listening to heavier bands like Black Sabbath and Pentagram and you can clearly hear a more distorted, fuzzed-out guitar sound which would seem to indicate that direction. Songs like 'The Sticks', 'Aphasia' and the title track are examples of the heavier sound although still mixed with a lot of afro and funk which has always been part of The Budos Band. The meshing of these styles makes a really interesting and fun album and definitely worth checking out.
