by Radical Son

Ever since David Leha, aka Radical Son, released a 3-song teaser in the middle of the year I’ve been hanging for this album and Cause ‘n Affect is as impressive as I expected. This is a hip hop album for people who would usually turn away from this genre. The soulful rhythms along with lyrics that are grounded in the values of his Indigenous and Tongan heritage delivered by a big rough voice make this a great introduction to this genre. Archie Roach and Pat Mau collaborated on the album, which is a testament to its quality and they certainly bring their experience to Radical Son’s big sound. The first full length recording for David with the Radical Son band, Cause ‘n Affect is full of the 37-year old’s incredible life experiences that range from spending time in prison, to studying music at university. Although it is the kind of album you can have on in the background, listeners should do themselves a favour and listen to what he’s saying. A fantastic full length debut and hopefully a sign of what’s to come from Radical Son.
