Described by the Herald Sun’s Scott Podmore as “An old-fashioned Springsteen-style storyteller with a soulful, mature voice” Melbourne based original acoustic contemporary roots artist Liz Stringer emerged triumphant with the critically acclaimed release of her debut album Soon in 2006, followed by the equally celebrated sophomore album, Pendulum in 2008. To consolidate this growing momentum, Liz has released her third album, Tides of Time, in 2010, a solo project which delivers a clear and mature progression of an artist who’s hit her straps, establishing her place among Australia’s brightest young songwriters.

Liz’s humble origins are much like the woman herself, and have provided the perfect grounding for musical growth. From a deeply musical family, her innate musicality helped her forge a keen ear for music, leading her to teach herself the piano and guitar as well as developing her early song writing works as a youngster.

After many years abroad in Germany & the UK, she arrived a veritable new comer to Melbourne’s music district, and has since received remarkable reviews from Australia’s music press and forged the lofty respect of her musical peers, as a musician’s musician.

Hand picked from the pack by touring circuit staple, Mia Dyson, Liz secured her first national tour with the Aria award winner in 2006. And has since added to her glowing supports tours and shows with other indie dignitaries such as Jen Cloher & the Endless Sea, Ash Grunwald, Ember Swift (Can), Eric Bibb (US), Joe Henry (US), Weddings Parties Anything and Brian Kennedy (Ire)

In July 2008 Liz embarked on her first national headline tour, garnering overwhelmingly positive responses from punters and venues alike, playing shows in Victoria, New South Wales, Western Australia, South Australia and the Northern Territory. Liz was also invited to join Deborah Conway’s 2008 Broad tour, playing in some of the premier performance venues in Australia, including the Sydney Opera House, QPAC in Brisbane and Hamer Hall in Melbourne. (Liz takes her rightful place as a “Broad” alongside the likes of Clare Bowditch, Mia Dyson, Sara Storer, Katie Noonan and Kate Miller-Heidke.)

2009 saw a second national tour with Mia Dyson (this time as Dyson’s guitarist), national supports with Eric Bibb, a show at the Darwin Festival and an appearance on SBS’s RocKwiz as well as the recording of her third album, Tides of Time. Stringer has recently returned from a national tour to launch Tides of Time, playing to full houses and delighted responses in five states and territories as the media praise continues to roll in from around the country.

Listen back to Homebrew with Jenny O'Keefe, 3-5pm for a live set from Liz Stringer.
