ABOUT THE MOOVIN' & GROOVIN' ORCHESTRA The MGO has been doing it's thing for over 12 years now. As the name suggests, the band tackles its repertoire with vigour and enthusiasm, be it in a dance hall, concert hall or outdoor festival stage.
IT'S BIG ! The MGO has 4 trumpets, 4 trombones, 5 saxophones (doubling on flute, clarinets and oboe), piano, guitar, double bass drums and percussion, vocalists, conductor, sound mixer and from time to time, even a 12-piece string section.
WHAT DO THEY PLAY ? The repertoire is extensive, over 250 arrangements, all written "in house", so, even if tackling an old favourite, it's not a "cover" you'll be hearing, but the "MGO" version.
The band has dug deeply into the legacies of Duke Ellington, Count Basie (swing music), Machito, Tito Puente and Dizzy Gillespie (latin american music), Cole Porter, Harold Arlen, George Gershwin and all the great "standard" songwriters (Hollywood/Broadway), Ray Charles (soul / rhythm & blues), contemporary sounds and also has a growing list of original compositions.
WHERE HAVE THEY PLAYED ? Concerts "Salute to the Duke", Melbourne Concert Hall 1995 "Porgy & Bess, A Labour of Love", Iwaki Auditorium, 2001 and at Morning Melodies - Melbourne Concert Hall March 2003. Zoo Twilight Concerts - a regular for the MGO for 10 years now.
