Artist Biography
Originally a three piece, namely Nicole Thibault, Julian Patterson and Ian Wadley, Minimum Chips formed in Brisbane, and have played extensively over the years including supports with touring acts including Stereolab, Pavement, Bikini Kill, Smog, Make-Up, Alastair Gailbraith and Tortoise.
Minimum Chips play edgy, melancholic pop tunes. Idiosyncratic and moody, their sound has it’s roots in an enclave of the Brisbane music scene in the early 90s, and reflects influences from 60s French Pop to 70s ‘krautrock’ and 80 - 90’s ‘post punk’, ‘space pop’...
The band has recently relocated to sunny Melbourne. Since recording ‘Freckles’ they have acquired a fourth member, Guy Blackman (of Sleepy Township fame), on bass guitar. The other instruments include drums, organ, analogue synthesizer and occasionally trombone, while Nicole sings.
'A charismatic and thickly-woven sound of wandering bass / edgy guitar / scattering drums / droning-organ / radiant-vocals...absolutely brilliant...now with added bass player - playing absolutely beautiful, melodic complex parts' - Beat Magazine.
'A mantra like effort conjured by simple guitar and keyboard melodies…warm and inviting…one of Brisbane’s most attention worthy bands' - Rave Magazine.
