Your name:
Amína

The name of your band/act etc:
Amína

Where are you from (city/country)?
Reykjavík, Iceland

Your sound can be described as?
Many sounds

Fill us in on the history¾where did your band/act start, what changes and developments have happened along the way and where are you now?
We first met in the Reykjavík College of Music in the mid 1990s, where we started out as a string quartet. Later, around 1997, we started working with various bands in Reykjavík and in 1999 our collaboration with the band Sigur Rós started. Touring with Sigur Rós and various studies in various countries kept us busy until last year when we decided to take the time to make our own music. It was something we had talked about for a long time and were very excited about. We released an EP, AnimaminA, on a new California based label called The Worker’s Institute in May 2005 and plan on releasing a full-length album early next year. We are currently touring with Sigur Rós, as collaborators and support act.

What’s your earliest memory of developing a passion for music?
It’s been a natural part of our lives since we can remember.

Your influences (musical, political etc) and why?
We are influenced by our surroundings, sounds, and experiences. Nothing particular we can pinpoint as more important than the other.

Most memorable gig you’ve played and why?
Must be the Hollywood Bowl, it was pretty bizarre and amazing.

What’s the most naughty thing you and/or the band have gotten up to on tour?
Not discussing that.

What’s the best thing and the worst thing about the music scene you are involved in and why? How did you get involved in the music scene you find yourself in now?
First of all we don’t really feel we’re a part of any particular scene. We only recently started working in Iceland and haven’t really played much there, so we’re still pretty isolated in our work. There is much to say about the Icelandic music scene, people help each other out a lot and there is a lot of support, but we have yet to properly dig into that environment.

Any last words?
We’re currently working on a full-length album that we plan to have ready for production by late January next year (2006), very exciting! And we’ll be touring a lot over the next year, so check for tour dates on our website.
